SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PHASE 1- WEEK 1

  •   DAY 1
       19/08/2024, Monday

The first phase of our teaching practice began today at Govt. Girls High School, Mavelikara. My friends Sunila, Manna, Merin, Kerthy, Sneha, and I arrived at the school at 9:30 a.m. Merin was assigned as our school leader, and we met the Headmistress, Anitha. After signing the attendance sheet, the teacher gave us necessary instructions. We were directed to the senior assistant, who provided us with the school timetable and allocated specific divisions to each of us. We were provided with a room, and we settled there. I was assigned to 8C. The day officially started at 9:45 a.m., and it was a peaceful and holistic experience. According to the timetable, I had the 6th period, but I didn't get an opportunity to take the class because my school mentor, Santhosh Sir, one of the mathematics teachers, needed to cover the portion for the upcoming Onam exam. Instead, I was asked to assist and monitor the students in class 7B, where they were writing notes in Malayalam. It was an interesting session, and I had the chance to interact with the students.

After lunch at 12:45 p.m., classes resumed at 1:20 p.m. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the opportunity to teach on the first day, which was a bit disappointing for me. However, we all liked the school atmosphere. We left the school at 3:45 p.m. after the national anthem.

      •      DAY 2

                21/08/2024, Wednesday

On the second day of our teaching practice at Govt. Girls High School, Mavelikara, we arrived at the school around 9:30 a.m., just like the previous day. After signing the attendance sheet, we gathered in the room assigned to us. According to the timetable, I had the 6th period scheduled for class 8C, where I was supposed to teach mathematics. I was excited and well-prepared for my first official class. However, my mentor, Santhosh Sir, had to cover some topics for the upcoming Onam exam, so I couldn't teach as planned. Instead, I received a substitution period during the 4th period in the same class. I introduced myself to the students and began the lesson. Started a new chapter Money math and the class went very smoothly ,asked the students if they understood the topic. They responded positively, which boosted my confidence in teaching.

We participated in the meal session, and after lunch at 12:45 p.m., the afternoon session resumed at 1:20 p.m. I spent the rest of the day assisting in evaluating the NASA exam papers for the 9th-grade students and continued observing the school environment.

The day concluded at 3:45 p.m. with the national anthem, and we left the school for the day.

      •     DAY 3

                          22/08/2024, Thursday

As usual, we arrived at the school at 9:30 a.m. and signed the attendance sheet in the Headmaster's room. The morning assembly was conducted by the 9th-grade students, during which a certificate was awarded to a student for participating in a Malayalam quiz organized by KUTC Kunnam.I had a substitution class with 8C during the 4th period. Later, as per the timetable, I taught the 6th period in the same class. The lesson on simple interest went smoothly, and I was able to manage the class effectively. Since I had two periods, I covered two lesson plans that were already prepared. The students actively participated in the activities, making the session engaging and enjoyable. We are gradually becoming more attached to the school atmosphere after a long time.
Overall, it was an interesting and fulfilling day. We left the school at 3:45 p.m. after the National Anthem.
